It all starts with just one man, but it's not down to a single "eureka" moment. The history of GUINNESS® beer, draught, or stout is a stirring tale of inspiration, dedication, inqenuity and effort. It's over two centuries of sublime brewing craft, a remarkable knack for spreading the word and more than a few leaps of faith.
1725 - Birth of a legend. Arthur, son of Richard and Elizabeth Guinness is born in Celbridge, County Kildale, Ireland. 1759 - It begins with a signature. Arthur Guinness signs a 9,000 year lease on an unused brewery at St. James's Gate, Dublin. It costs him £100 (about $147 US dollars) with an annual rent of £45 (about $66 US dollars) - this includes crucial water rights. Arthur begins brewing porter and ale. The legend begins.

Luck of the Irish Trip.
